I am going to start off by adding the sales data to the Data Model. If I add one of them, they all get added at the same time. The next step is to add my tables to the Data Model. I named my other two tables Product_Data and Region_Data. You need to convert each of your ranges to a table, naming them accordingly. Spaces are not allowed in table names so I used an underscore. On the far left of the Ribbon with that tab activated you will see a box where you can enter a name for the table. You will notice that your Ribbon now includes a Table Tools DESIGN tab. The important thing to do at this stage is to name the table. Your Excel table will include some formatting and the filter drop-downs for each column: we won’t need the filter functionality but it’s applied anyway. I then need to click OK to confirm I am happy with range selected. I just select a cell within the data and then on the INSERT tab on the Ribbon click the Table button. To start with I am going to convert each range into an Excel table: this makes the data easier to identify in the Data Model as I can name the tables. The three sets of data are in the same workbook on different sheets. ![]() I need my PivotTable to show me a breakdown of sales per product category, per region – something I can’t do with the original sales data because the both the product category and region information are missing. The third set of data tells me which region each branch is in. The second set of data assigns a product category to each product The first contains records of sales transactions The solution I want to reach using the Data Model concerns these three sets of data. The video below will take you through this exercise and you can download the featured file to practice your new found knowledge! Anyway, let’s have a look at how to use the Data Model. The Data Model is probably the way to go if you are working with a lot of records and a lot of fields where working with a VLOOKUP would be more time consuming and awkward. In many ways the Data Model achieves the same thing as a VLOOKUP: it combines data from multiple sources based on a common field. However, the Data Model (the cut down version of the add-in), is available to standard Excel 2013 users: this tutorial explains how to use the Data Model to combine multiple, related tables in a Pivot Table. In Office 2013 the PowerPivot add-in is only available to Office 2013 Professional Plus users – not a licence you can buy retail. The PowerPivot add-in allows you to combine multiple tables in a PivotTable. The Data Model is a cut down version of the PowerPivot add-in that was and is still available for Excel 2010 users. ![]() One of the new features included in Excel 2013 is the Data Model.

Many people enjoy the thrill of flying a hang-glider – Patrick Monro, director of Aqua Air Adventure, is no exception. Meet Patrick Monro – passionate about hang-gliders This turns them into microlights and means they can take off and climb from flat ground just like a normal aircraft. Some hang-glider pilots attach small motors and propellers to their hang-gliders. If there is a stronger breeze, the glider will start gaining altitude. For example, if a glider is flying over a vertical coastal cliff and there is a light breeze blowing in directly from the sea and the air is being forced vertically upwards by the cliff at 3.6 km/h, the hang-glider can fly along the cliff without losing height. In order to not lose height, a hang-glider must find air going up as fast as the glider is descending. A hang-glider descends at the rate of about 1 metre per second (a slow walking pace of about 3.6 km/h). If the air is still, it will slowly descend. The aerofoil is then drawn up into the area of low pressure, producing lift. ![]() Meanwhile, the downward and forward motion of the wing compresses the air flowing under the wing. The aerofoil forces the air flowing over the top of the wing to travel faster, thereby ‘stretching’ it to produce a low-pressure area. The aerofoil shape of the wing stops the hang-glider from dropping like a stone. The weight produces the thrust that keeps the aerofoil moving through the air. This is the weight of the pilot and the wing. Gravity is the main force on a hang-glider. It has to be launched from somewhere high like a hill or mountain. The pilot still operates tandem flights and has attached an extra security cord to ensure the mishap doesn’t reoccur.Since a hang-glider is unpowered, it can’t take off from low ground. Le Matin Dimanche reports that the American is unperturbed by the event and is planning to return to Switzerland to try hang-gliding once again. FOCA stopped short of a permanent ban, saying that the pilot’s aptitude was not in question.ĭuring the Attorney General’s hearings, which took place in June but only this weekend emerged in the media, an accident report noted that the flight took place at an average speed of some 59.3km/h and at a height between 30 and 50 metres above ground should the man have fallen, the report estimated, he would have hit the earth at a speed of 113km/h. The sentence comes after an earlier fine of CHF800 handed down by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) and the suspension of the pilot’s license for two months. ![]() The whole thing was captured on a video that went viral, clocking up some 10 million YouTube views.Īlmost a year later, the pilot, who described the event as “the shock of his life”, has been sentenced by the Swiss Attorney General’s Office to a fine of CHF1,000 ($1,028) and 120 suspended day-fines for having “disrupted public traffic through negligence”. The October 2018 flight of an American tourist in Central Switzerland turned sour just after take-off when it turned out his harness was not properly fastened.įollowing a two-minute white-knuckle ride during which he hung on at speeds of over 60km/h, the emergency landing resulted in ‘merely’ a fractured wrist and a torn bicep ligament. ![]() Oct 2021: Jack has donated in honor of author Robert Armstrong. It contains hundreds (931 to be exact) of posts about what people thought of the movie, what people thought the movie was about, and ultimately, who the participants are themselves. The Matrix Reloaded posted at 10:10 am ET I closed and archived the thread for reasons discussed here, but I opened another thread so that the discussion could continue. After reading this breathless article about the Matrix Reloaded in Wired last month, I was very much looking forward to the movie and in particular, the special effects. In the end, I think the Wachowski brothers failed in what they were trying to do with the movie, which is disappointing. ![]() The completely computer-generated effects (e.g. 100 Agent Smiths fight) looked, well, completely computer-generated. The fish in the Finding Nemo preview looked more fish-like than the humans in the Matrix Reloaded looked human-like. The technology they used was 1.0 (or maybe even still in beta) and it showed.give it a few years and then we'll have something. The other disappointing thing was the tone of the movie. The Matrix Reloaded would have worked a lot better as an action movie that took itself a little bit seriously (taking a page from the fun X2 flick) instead of a drama interspersed with action. The movie was too weighty and took itself too seriously. I don't mind weighty movies, but the subject matter just didn't warrant all the seriousness. We get it, but it's not compelling enough to build a whole movie around. What did you think? Post your reviews (or a link to your review) in the comments. Lots of spoilers: Upside down guy was Cypher. I'm a bit concerned about what bit I missed at the end of the credits by not sticking around.īut the movie? It was entertaining, but not great. The hippie-dippie raver scene was only missing a hacky sack in order to perfect its lameness. Along with a terribly unsexy sex scene layered on top of it. ![]() Morpheus' big speech was underwhelming, and the cuts between expository dialogue and actions taking place during the "heist" scenes at the end seemed too abrupt. They're talking about what they're going to do, they're doing it, oops! They're dead. #Nifty tg worldshift movieĪnd the worst thing about the movie was the music. During the Burly Brawl, video game music would've been an improvement over the accompaniment. The fight with the malovingian's goons was three times longer than it needed to be, and unsatisfying. The freeze-frames during the Burly Brawl did look computer-generated, yes, but so what? Still fun as hell. Even the gratuitous fights, like the one before Neo meets the Oracle, were fun to watch. Though most of the new characters are forgettable, the keymaker was great fun, and Link was useful in reflecting the audience onscreen. Not as good as the first, of course, but we can't be wowed again like we were 4 years ago. ![]() The information is used to optimize the users' experience by customizing our web page content based on visitors' browser type and/or other information. The papercraft style is a cute twist, even if it’s no longer all that novel, but Thing Trunk explained that the entire series is based in the same papercraft universe, putting the focus squarely on the gameplay and setting. It’s the tiniest of mechanics, but it does wonders to keep the game from being unplayably simple. Enemies with shields start showing up, requiring you to deliberately click on their shields to destroy them before you can attack the enemy. As you wander the path, enemies will approach you, then you click them to attack until they die. Your movement is restricted to a simple branching path, and the combat is hilariously Diablo-like click-to-kill. No, Book of Demons isn’t a fully fleshed-out ARPG, but it does find a happy medium between a PC ARPG and a casual clicking game.īook of Demons is something like a hack-and-slash on rails. The devs aren’t just making clones, though, instead focusing on updating the mechanics to be more accessible to time-restricted gamers without sacrificing the depth of our favorite games. The first entry, Book of Demons, uses the original Diablo for its source material. Once they get into the pitch, it gets a bit more frank, and the sell is undeniably a marketing gimmick, but if the series lives up to its ambition, at least it’ll be a good gimmick.Įach of the seven games will be the studio’s take on one of the classics. It’s doubtful that Escapist readers will find anything there that they didn’t already know, but the presentation is delightful. The first segment is very after-school-special-y or Magic School Busish, which reflects the retro feel the company’s aiming for, and is also a highly entertaining look back at gaming. ![]() The team put together a video manifesto of sorts, which I recommend you check out. Even as an adult with precious little free time, those of us that grew up on the classics still want a robust experience, which is what Thing Trunk’s goal is with the series. As with most things, you should know who your audience is, and Thing Trunk’s new seven-part retrological games series, Return 2 Games, is focused on the generally elusive “mid-core” players. Thousands of games come out every month across the abundance of platforms, but only a handful will be a success story.
